It has been a Year Now

It was just a year ago that we had to put our dog Reggie down. He had kidney failure and arthritis in his hips so it was hard for him to move around very well. This is the longest that I have been without a dog in a really long time.

I got a call back from the doctor's nurse today and the x-rays revealed severe degenerative arthritis in my lower back. I knew that I had continual back pain but did not realize that it was that bad. the x-rays did not reveal any problem with my hip yet although the doctor said that many times it does not show up in x-rays for several years.

They had not gotten the blood work results back yet so I am not sure about the possibility of the cancer having spread. I guess that I will have to wait until Monday to get those results.

Yesterday after coming home from the doctor's office we reheated up Kathleen's left over food from Wednesday night. There was some chicken enchilada and pork tamale and of course beans and rice.

Then today for lunch I reheated up Chucky's left-overs I am not sure what it was but it was almost soup like. It had chicken, rice, mushrooms, onions, peppers and I am not sure what else.

Kathleen had taken off to go to Costco and then to Alyssa's; I stayed home as I wanted to get the report from the doctor's and my hip was also pretty sore.

So I guess that is all the news from here for today...to be continued next week!

We're keeping you in our prayers!

So, now that they can see you have arthritis in your back, can they give you anything to reduce the pain or symptoms?

From what I gathered from the x-ray they can see it and I guess it is pretty bad in my lower back.

They can prescribe something for pain management, but for now I am going to try and manage it with Tylenol; it is cheaper and there are less side effects.

Does a heat pad work or a muscle cream like icy hot? I know what you mean about the side effects...as long as the Tylenol does the trick. Just don't hold out too long.

The heat pads would work on my back but because of where I would need to put it ti would not work on my hip.

Your mother keeps trying to put the micro-wave heating pad on my hip but to no avail.

I have had the pain in my back so long now that I have learned to compensate for it and block out the pain.

I wanted to talk with Jennifer before I answered this. She said that a good physical therapist can help with the pain - definitely not a chiropractor. If you want to talk with her about it, let me know. She might be able to recommend what to look for in a good physical therapist. She also said that arthritis in your back can cause pain in your hip.

You are in our prayers, as always.

Love,
Sue
