Well, I did get some sleep last night, I did not get up until 0815 and considering that I went to bed at 2100 that is a long time for me to stay in bed. So I must have been as tired as I felt.
I did not get much done this morning other than make myself breakfast and put away the dishes I washed last night. Oh, I guess that I did change the water in the beta's globe, but that only took about fifteen minutes.
This afternoon I put on another coat of oil on the planter bench that I had been working on earlier in the week. I also picked up some of the foliage from the irises that I dug up for Alyssa Monday.
After that I spent most of the rest of the afternoon cleaning up the collection of odds and ends that have been collecting by the garage door. I even weeded around the door and low and behold I found a tree rose. Well not really, but after I pulled out the mint and violets it could be seen a lot better.
I also opened up some old gallon paint cans and put the dried paint in the garbage and the empty cans in the recycling. They had been setting by the garage doors for about two years. I originally set them there so that the paint could dry up and I could take the chunks out and recycled the cans. Some how I never found the time to finish the project until now.
I even swept the cement around the door so that one can actually see the cement instead of the fir pollen pods and leaves. I did not know what time it was, but when I went into the house it was 1730, so I had been working outside since about 1330. I guess that is why I am just a little worn out.
Kathleen has another Fellowship Ministry team meeting tonight so she made some Au Gratin potatoes and a couple of the left over hamburgers from last night. I just finished putting the dishes in the dishwasher and am soaking the pots and pans so that I can get most of the baked on potatoes off before I put them in the dishwasher.
I think that is all I am going to attempt to do for today, so good night is in order.

Cleaning up

I use regular tap water that I let set out overnight to get to room temperature. I also use a product called, "Genesis" made by Aquarium Products, out of Glen Burnie, Md. 21061. It is described as a fish protector that removes the chlorine from the water. The bottle that I got treats about 400 gallons of water at one drop per gallon.
If your friend cannot find it, I would recommend that they check with a local fish or pet store and see what they recommend.
I hope that this helps.
I just realized that I did not answer all of your questions. I have had the betta for several months.
Another thought your friend might be over feeding the betta.
I use Hikari Betta Bio-Gold, it is Suppose to reduce stress related illness, optimize nutritional balance, does not cloud the water and it floats.
It is from Kyorin Co, LTD their web site is www.hikariusa.com, it comes in a plastic foil "bag" with a little spout and cap.
I only feed the betta two or three pellets at a time usually three times a day.
Here again, if your friend cannot find this particular brand, they should check with their local fish or pet store.
I also do not have anything else in the globe with the betta, when I first got the betta; I had some "lucky bamboo and some polished river stones in there.
I am not sure what was causing it, but the betta was not doing well after a couple months, but once I took everything else out he did much better. So now, it is just the betta in the globe all by his lonesome.
